Florian Thauvin comments on plans via Twitter hours after Newcastle's £10.7 million bid rejected

Newcastle United target appears committed to Marseille.

Florian Thauvin is the subject of renewed interest from Newcastle United, report The Mail.

The Mail claim the Toon had a bid of £10.7 million rejected for the Frenchman, with Marseille keen to hold onto the 22-year-old, unless they receive an offer of £18 million.

Thauvin appears in no rush to make a switch, hours later taking to his Twitter account to express his eagerness to return to pre-season with Marseille.

His post communicated his happiness to return to the club, with the staff, and his teammates, and is now getting to work to prepare for the pre-season.

It is not a message from a player whose mind suggests he is angling for a move.

Is Thauvin worth £18 million?

Newcastle have had mixed success with buys from France over the past few seasons. For every Yohan Cabaye there has been an Emmanuel Riviere. Even last season's big buy has Remy Cabella struggled to adjust to English football.

Thauvin at 22 is far from the finished product, last season scoring five goals and providing seven assists. Solid numbers from a winger, but not spectacular.

If his heart is not set on a transfer, there is even less reason for Newcastle to pursue him further, and should consider looking at alternatives.
