Former Sheffield United defender Matthew Lowton has left Premier League club Aston Villa for Championship outfit Burnley.

Aston Villa and Burnley fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to have their say on the transfer of Matthew Lowton.

The 26-year-old defender has left Premier League outfit Villa and joined Championship club Burnely on a three-year contract, as reported by BBC Sport.

Lowton is the Clarets’ first signing since their relegation from the Premier League at the end of the recently concluded 2014-15 campaign.

The right-back is expected to be a replacement for Kieran Trippier, who has left Burnley for North London outfit Tottenham Hotspur.

Lowton, who joined the Villans from Sheffield United in the summer of 2012, struggled to play regularly under manager Tim Sherwood in the final months of the 2014-15 campaign.

The Englishman, who made 82 appearances in three years for Villa, will now hope to feature regularly for Burnley next season and help them gain promotion back to the Premier League.

Following Lowton’s switch, Villa and Burnley fans took to Twitter to have their say.
