West Ham face Andorra's FC Lusitans in Europa League first round qualifier

Ties to be played on the 2nd and 9th of July.

It’s an early start to the season for Slaven Bilic in his new role as West Ham boss as the Hammers return to Europe for the first time in nine years.

FC Lusitans are the first obstacle they will face on their journey to the group stage and the Andorran club finished runners-up in their country's top league.

Comprised mainly of part-time and semi-professional players, an F.C. Lusitan victory would be an upset of unbelievable proportions.

After winning a place in the Europa League first round qualifying stage via the Fair Play league, West Ham will begin their campaign in just 10 days' time.

The road ahead is a long one with Bilic and his team needing to progress through three qualifying rounds and a play-off in order to reach the group stages.

In what must surely be a disruption to pre-season preparations, West Ham could face five competitive fixtures in July as well as three more in August if they manage to go all the way in the qualifiers.

Despite this, the lure of European football is a big one and it would be fitting to see its return coincide with the Hammers' final year at the Boleyn Ground.
