Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele has emerged as a surprise option for Chelsea.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele is the subject of surprise transfer links to Chelsea.

The Sun on Sunday reported the Belgian international is wanted by Jose Mourinho, who is said to be happy to sanction a £12 million offer.

Dembele signed three seasons ago for Spurs but has been in and out of the side under various managers, and played in a number of positions.

At Chelsea it is hard to see him making the jump to becoming a must-start player, but he is a somewhat proven commodity for a side which are certain to rotate as they seek to compete on multiple fronts.

With experience at Fulham prior to signing with Spurs, Dembele has racked up a total of 146 Premier League appearances, and is still only 27-years-old.

He had a mixed season with Spurs last year, struggling for starts in the early part of the season in central midfield, losing his place to Ryan Mason.

Instead Dembele enjoyed more success in an attacking midfield role, but when the big games came around it was Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen who was first choice.

The report in The Sun on Sunday described Dembele as a 'flop', but really he has been far better than that, even if not good enough to be described as a success. The reports generated mixed views from supporters...
