Three Sunderland players Leeds should consider getting for Sam Byram

Sunderland Fans

Sunderland are strongly linked with signing Leeds' Sam Byram, who could the Championship side look to get in return?

Sunderland's interest in Sam Byram appeared to heat up last week, with The Mirror reporting the Wearside club were mulling over a £8 million offer in the Leeds defender.

Byram, 21, is an outstanding prospect able to play right-back or right-wing, but has just one year remaining on his current contract at the club.

Leeds would surely look to reinvest any fee in players should they accept an offer, but what about bringing in a Sunderland player or two in part-exchange?

Here are three players they could consider...

Connor Wickham

Former England youth international Connor Wickham has already played for Leeds once before, on loan in the 2013/14 season. He did not find his best form, recalled early, and went onto score for Sunderland against Chelsea that season and play a crucial role in their survival. He remained in and out of the side ever since though, and if they managed to sign him, Leeds could be confident they have a 20-goal plus striker in their side.

Emanuele Giaccherini

Could Massimo Cellino swing a deal for Italian international Emanuele Giaccherini? The winger would be a huge upgrade on Leeds' current options out wide, but only if he is willing to step down a division. Injuries limited him to only eight Premier League appearances last season, which could make Sunderland open to letting him leave, while he could be in need of guaranteed regular football to get back on track.

Will Buckley

25-year-old winger Will Buckley was a Gus Poyet signing at Sunderland, and made only 22 appearances from a possible 38 last season. He made his name at Brighton, scoring 19 times and providing 16 assists for the Seagulls, and has Championship experience which could help him become a big asset to Leeds.
