Southampton fans react on Twitter to signing of Maarten Stekelenburg

Southampton have snapped up goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg this evening.

Southampton have this evening confirmed on their official website that they have signed Dutch goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg on a season-long loan deal from Fulham.

Having snapped up right back Cedric Soares and forward Juanmi last week, the Saints are back in the transfer market again, this time landing a goalkeeper.

First choice stopper Fraser Forster is expected to miss the first half of the season through a knee injury, leaving manager Ronald Koeman with little quality cover.

Now, he has reunited with Stekelenburg, having managed the goalkeeper during his time as Ajax boss whilst the 32-year-old was emerging with the Amsterdam giants.

A former Dutch international, Stekelenburg's career has nosedived ever since leaving Roma for Fulham, as injuries hit before being relegated to the Championship.

Stekelenburg has spent the last year on loan at Monaco, and now he's on the move again, becoming Southampton's third summer signing.

Saints fans took to Twitter upon hearing the news, with most fans delighted to see proven cover brought in to deputise whilst Forster rehabilitates.

Many believe that Koeman can get the best out of Stekelenburg once again after a tough few years for the goalkeeper, though some fans are a little more sceptical given his recent record.

Here are some of the reactions from Southampton fans on Twitter after Stekelenburg arrived at St. Mary's Stadium this evening...
