As reported by the Argus, Brighton, West Brom and Everton want to sign Ameobi, who is out-of-contract at the end of June.
The 23-year-old versatile attacker has been offered a new deal by the Magpies, but there are no hints as to whether he has actually agreed a deal yet. He reportedly wants first-team football to aid his international ambitions, and could look for a move away if his Newcastle chances are limited following the appointment of Steve McClaren at St James’ Park.
Brighton boss Chris Hughton wants to reunite with the Nigerian attacker, having worked with him on Tyneside, and is hoping that the allures of Championship first-team football will interest him over sitting on the bench in the Premier League.
West Brom and Everton are also interested in him, but it is unlikely that they can offer him the same chances as Brighton, whilst both Wolves and Burnley are also referenced as being keen on the forward.
There are no indications in the report to suggest that Brighton have formalised their interest and actually approached Ameobi concerning a transfer, but whilst his contract talks with Newcastle are delayed, the potential still remains.
Despite the Premier League interest in him, and the chance to remain with Newcastle, it is likely that Ameobi would push for a move to the Championship if his concerns about first-team football are truthful.
