Report: Newcastle dealt blow in Charlie Austin pursuit

The England international would reportedly prefer to stay in London.

The race for Charlie Austin’s signature looks set to develop into one of this summer’s biggest transfer sagas with Newcastle, West Ham and Crystal Palace among those linked, as per the Mirror.

The Daily Mail is now reporting that the striker would prefer a London stay, potentially striking a huge blow to Newcastle’s chances.

Steve McClaren is said to be a huge fan but Newcastle are holding off on a £15 million move until the player’s preferences are determined.

Newcastle’s need for another front man is perhaps the most pressing out of those linked after their dismal showing last season and the 25-year old would be a major coup.

The Queens Park Rangers man bagged 18 goals last season as his team were relegated and has no intention of playing Championship football next season.

The striker revealed he now sees himself as a Premier League player, as reported in the Daily Star, and a move to a Premier League club seems inevitable.
