Report: Atletico Madrid join race for Manchester United's Javier Hernandez

Javier Hernandez

The Mexican is being tracked by a number of clubs and the La Liga side are the latest to register an interest, reports suggest.

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez could be set to stay in Madrid after Atletico Madrid joined the race to sign him, according to Fox Sports.

The Mexican’s future is currently up in the air having spent last season on loan with Real Madrid, but a move to the Bernabeu is looking unlikely after they decided not to take up an option to purchase him.

He is also unlikely to be staying at Manchester United, with Louis van Gaal unable to guarantee him the first team football he wants and also said to be chasing a new forward this summer.

That uncertainty over his future has of course led to intense speculation about where he may end up, with clubs across Europe said to be interested in Hernandez's services, and Atletico Madrid are the latest potential suitor, according to Fox.

Diego Simeone’s side will be on the hunt for a new forward with Mario Mandzukic looking set to join Serie A champions Juventus, according to Sky Sports, meaning a move for Hernandez could be even more likely in the coming weeks.

If he were guaranteed first-team football, it is likely Hernandez would prefer to stay in Madrid at Vincente Calderon as well, making a deal all the more possible.
