Report: Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke too expensive for AS Roma

Liverpool and Chelsea are reportedly interested in Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.

Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke is too costly for AS Roma, according to The Daily Mail.

It has been reported by the British newspaper that the Italian club are interested in the Belgium international striker.

However, Roma, who finished second in Serie A in 2014-15 and will play in the Champions League next season, have “no immediate plans to pursue a deal” for Benteke, according to the report.

“The Italian side want a striker and have considered the Belgium international but he is too costly and they are pursuing other targets with Manchester City's Edin Dzeko still among them,” states the report in The Daily Mail.

It has also been reported by the British newspaper that the £32.5 million-rated striker is being targeted by Premier League duo Liverpool and Chelsea.

Good news for Aston Villa?

The fact that Roma find Benteke too expensive will be good news to the Villa fans. It means that there is one fewer club who are not going to make a move for the former Genk star.

The 24-year-old is a prized asset, and Villa need to keep hold of him in order to have a successful 2015-16 campaign.

It will not be easy, though, as with Liverpool and Chelsea also interested in him, it could just be a matter of time before Benteke leaves.
