Paul Merson: Petr Cech would be a great signing for Arsenal

Petr Cech is reportedly set to join Arsenal from Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Paul Merson has told The Sport Review that Petr Cech would be a great signing for Arsenal.

The Chelsea goalkeeper has been strongly linked with a move to the Gunners in the summer transfer window.

According to a report in The Daily Mail on Monday, the Czech Republic international has moved from Chelsea to London rivals Arsenal.

It has been reported that the Gunners will pay Chelsea a transfer fee of £11 million for the services of Cech.

Former Arsenal attacker Merson believes that Cech would be a great signing for Arsenal.

“I like Petr Cech,” the 47-year-old told The Sport Review in quotes published on Sunday. “He would be a great signing. He is still one of the top goalkeepers in the world.

“If you look at the goalies at the top this season, they’ve saved their teams bundle of points. I don’t really think the Arsenal goalkeepers have saved bundle of points.”

Good signing

Cech is a world-class goalkeeper, and his move to Arsenal is certainly going to enhance the quality of manager Arsene Wenger’s squad.

Wojciech Szczesny is the Gunners’ first choice between the posts at the moment, and David Ospina is his back-up.

Former Rennes goalkeeper Cech will certainly be an upgrade on them and could even make Arsenal genuine Premier League title contenders next season. Despite being 33 years of age, the Chelsea goalkeeper is agile, attentive and alert.
