Aston Villa Transfer round-up: No offers received for Christian Benteke, Yacouba Sylla departs

Trinity Road Stand - Aston Villa

A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Aston Villa today.

Christian Benteke’s £32.5 million release clause may have done the trick as Sky Sports sources revealed Villa are yet to receive any bids for their star man.

None of the interested parties are reportedly willing to meet the figure and it could mean Benteke remains at Villa Park next season.

On a less positive note for the Villa faithful, Sky sources also report that the Belgian striker is unwilling to extend his current deal.

Benteke has two years left to run on his current contract but has no intention of extending any further due to his desire for Champions League football and it's looking a case of when, not if, he leaves the Villians.

On a less glamourous note, Villa flop Yacouba Sylla has joined Ligue One side Rennes on a four-year deal, as reported by Sky Sports.

Signed in 2013, the Malian made only 12 Premier League appearances and spent last season on loan at Kayseri Erciyesspor.

His exit marks another step in Tim Sherwood’s Villa clear out following the departures of Darren Bent, Andreas Weimann, Enda Stevens and Nicklas Helenius.

The Sunderland Echo report Sunderland and Newcastle are amongst several clubs in the hunt for Ron Vlaar. The out of contract Dutchman is said to be assessing his options and feels he can 'go a step higher' than Aston Villa.

Finally, Angelo Ogbonna continues to be linked with a move to Villa Park by Italian newspaper Tuttosport. The 27-year old is said to be frustrated with his lack of game time at Juventus and Tim Sherwood is believed to be considering a move for the Italian.
