MLS team of the week: Featuring New York City FC duo Shay Facey and David Villa

The Manchester City loanee and former Barcelona striker both earned spots in our XI thanks to their impressive week 16 displays.

GK – David Ousted (Vancouver Whitecaps)

Saturday’s 2-1 win over the New York Red Bulls saw the Dane save two Bradley Wright-Phillips penalties to help put his side level on points with Western Conference leaders Seattle Sounders.

RB – R.J. Allen (New York City FC)

Six tackles, two interceptions and seven clearances helped NYCFC beat Toronto FC 2-0 at BMO Field for their third straight league win.

CB – Shay Facey (New York City FC)

The Manchester City loanee also played his part in Saturday’s victory, making two tackles, three interceptions and a match-leading eight clearances as TFC’s high-powered attack were limited to just four shots on target.

CB – Laurent Ciman (Montreal Impact)

Kaka’s Orlando City SC fell 2-0 at the resurgent Impact on Saturday, with Ciman making seven tackles, three interceptions, three tackles and blocking a shot to help keep out the visitors.

LB – Jorge Villafana (Portland Timbers)

The former Chivas USA defender set up Max Urruti’s first-half opener in the weekend’s 2-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo with a 30-yard free-kick, while also swinging in 11 crosses over the course of the match.

RM – Stefan Ishizaki (LA Galaxy)

The MLS Cup holders looked back to their best in thrashing the Philadelphia Union 5-1 on Saturday night, as Ishizaki recorded three shots, eight crosses, two key passes and his side’s fourth goal.

CM – Matias Perez Garcia (San Jose Earthquakes)

The Argentine playmaker assisted Sanna Nyassi’s opener and scored the second in Sunday’s 2-0 victory over a short-handed Seattle, while also making five key passes during his 77-minute outing.

CM – Javier Morales (Real Salt Lake)

RSL’s main man set up both of his side’s goals as substitute Olmes Garcia’s stoppage-time strike secured a dramatic 2-1 home win over Sporting KC.

LM – Baggio Husidic (LA Galaxy)

LA’s other wide man also impressed against the Union, helping set up goals from Juninho and Sebastian Lletget after opening the scoring himself in the 23rd-minute.

ST – Gyasi Zardes (LA Galaxy)

The US international marked his return to the starting line-up with a goal and two assists in the win over Philadelphia.

ST – David Villa (New York City FC)

With NYCFC’s defence doing their job against TFC, captain Villa produced the goods at the other end, scoring his fifth and sixth goals of the season either side of half-time to ensure his team left Canada with all three points.
