When asked by Sky Sports if he would secure transfers this week, Warburton responded: “We’d like to. The situation is the first competitive game is 25 July, so we have to be aware of that. The pre-season programme is tight.”
Rangers start their 2015/16 campaign, as Warburton confirms, towards the end of July, and this places a strain on their transfer plans.
Not only do players have to be signed prior to the start of the fixtures, but Warburton would prefer to have them confirmed a lot earlier to ensure they are bedded into the squad and understanding his tactics before the season starts.
This leaves less than a month to complete transfer deals to ensure they are in place prior to the start of the campaign, and Warburton has admitted that securing deals this week would be ideal.
There are no indications as to whom Warburton is hoping to sign by Friday, although there are three targets who look likely to be agreed soon.
John Eustace, Scott Allan and Danny Wilson have all been linked with moves to Ibrox in recent weeks. The Evening Times reported on interest in Allan, whilst the Scotsman claims Wilson is close to a deal, and the Record has reported that Eustace will be made captain of the club if he joins.
All three would be great signings for the club, and a real statement of intent that the Gers intend to get back to the pinnacle of Scottish football at the earliest opportunity. If one deal can be completed this week, it should start a flurry of business in the coming weeks to strengthen the Rangers squad as they look to win the Championship this coming season.
