Report: West Ham plan to sign Tottenham Hotspur's Mousa Dembele

West Ham are also reportedly interested along with Chelsea in signing Mousa Dembele.

West Ham are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele, report The Sun.

The paper claim that the Belgian is a player Slaven Bilic admires, but as per The Sun's article 24 hours earlier - they face competition from Chelsea, with Jose Mourinho also said to be keen.

Dembele scored just one goal and provided one assist last season in 26 appearances for Tottenham, but his 1,138 minutes played averaged just 43 minutes per game.

West Ham or Chelsea?

Former Fulham midfielder Dembele has a difficult decision to make if Spurs let him leave, not only electing whether to play for a London rival, but choosing which.

The obvious answer is Premier League champions Chelsea, but with Euro 2016 a year away, Dembele must consider the best circumstances to put himself in the spotlight.

Champions League football with Chelsea would provide this, but if Dembele struggles to play 90 minutes for Tottenham, he is likely to find it even harder at Stamford Bridge, and could opt for West Ham if he decides there is more chance of him playing regularly and that is his priority.

Don't bet on it

In the case of either club, the decision will rest with chairman Daniel Levy. The Spurs supremo is not exactly said to be fond of either of their rivals, and will consider long and hard before sanctioning any switch.

Dembele is good enough, if inconsistent, to make Spurs regret it, and if Levy was happy to block the Hammer signing Emmanuel Adebayor, as he did in January as reported by The BBC, he could seek to do so again.
