As per the latest reports in The Sun, Newcastle United look set to miss out on £8 million-rated Anderlecht star Chancel Mbemba as he nears a move to Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The Magpies have so far endured a turbulent start to the transfer market, with newly-appointed boss Steve McClaren yet to make his first signing, to the frustration of some supporters.
Newcastle have been linked with plenty of names, with Anderlecht centre-back Chancel Mbemba pinpointed as a target as early as May as per a report in the Belgian paper HLN.
However, the Geordies have seemingly once again been beaten to the punch as reports state the highly-rated Congo international is instead nearing a switch to the Bundesliga.
“Newcastle are set to miss out on Anderlecht centre-back Chancel Mbemba. The 20-year-old £8 million-rated Congolese international is getting closer to moving to Bundesliga big guns Borussia Moenchengladbach,” The Sun reports.
Frustration in the transfer market for newly-appointed Newcastle boss Steve McClaren?
While Newcastle United aren’t the only Premier League club yet to make a new signing, they do seem to be missing out on a large number of potential targets in comparison to their league rivals.
Newly-promoted Bournemouth, for instance, have already made four additions whereas McClaren’s former club Derby County have made five new signings under new boss Paul Clement.
Patrick Bamford (Chronicle), Charlie Austin (the Mirror) and Andros Townsend (The Sun) are other names said to be heading Newcastle’s wish-list, yet the trio appear to be either staying put or heading elsewhere.
McClaren needs to shake-up his Newcastle squad and mould the team to his style, but a succession of disappointments could soon cause desperation and prompt expensive errors in the transfer market.
