Manchester United transfer news: Bastian Schweinsteiger allegedly close, De Gea latest and Boateng blow

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

According to a report from the Sunday People, Manchester United are closing in on a £7.5million deal to bring Bastian Schweinsteiger to Old Trafford.

The German international is approaching the final year of his contract at Bayern Munich and it is being claimed that United manager Louis van Gaal is very keen to sign him, with Ed Woodward tasked with making the deal happen this summer.

Schweinsteiger has racked up 500 appearances for Bayern, scoring 68 goals and providing 101 assists in that time. He has also been capped 111 times for his country and would bring considerable experience to United’s squad were he to arrive.

In other news, the Daily Star Sunday claims United will have less luck in their alleged attempt to sign Bayern defender Jerome Boateng.

The report claims that while United are tracking the versatile defender, his girlfriend could throw a spanner in the works after allegedly being miserable in his first spell in England when Boateng played for Manchester City.

The report claims Boateng is seen as a potential alternative if United fail to sign Valencia centre-back Nicolas Otamendi this summer.

And finally, the Mail on Sunday claims several of David de Gea’s United teammates feel it is only a matter of time before the Spaniard completes his move from Old Trafford to Rea Madrid.

The report claims De Gea has told some of the players he wants to move to the Bernabeu prior to the new campaign, something that would be a huge blow to United given his importance to the side and blossoming talent.
