Ljubinko Drulovic speaks highly of Newcastle target Aleksandar Mitrovic

Swansea City, Newcastle United and Southampton are all reportedly interested in Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Former Benfica winger Ljubinko Drulovic has been singing the praises of Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic in O Jogo.

According to the Portuguese publication, the youngster is a transfer target of Benfica, and retired Serbian winger Drulovic believes that Mitrovic has huge potential.

“I know him very well, he is an important player,” the 46-year-old told O Jogo. “He is young and has been a champion with the Serbia Under-19 team.

“He plays very well, he heads well, he plays very well with his back to the goal and he will certainly be great signing for Benfica.

"In two or three years, he will be worth a lot of money to Benfica. He is a great professional, he likes to work, and signing for Benfica will be a very important step in his career.”

Drulovic’s comments about Mitrovic's qualities will please the Newcastle United fans, as the Premier League outfit have also been linked with a move for the striker this summer.

According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle are interested in signing the Serbia international and will have to pay between £12million and £15m in transfer fee.

The Sun recently claimed that Premier League rivals Swansea City and Southampton are looking to snap up Mitrovic as well.

From Drulovic’s comments, it seems that Mitrovic will be a very good signing, especially if he has been linked with Benfica.

Benfica are one of the biggest clubs of Europe and won the Portuguese Primeira Liga in the recently concluded 2014-15 campaign.

The Eagles will be playing in the Champions League next season and will be determined to successfully defend their title, and their interest in Mitrovic suggests that he is indeed highly thought of.

Mitrovic has shown his potential by scoring in the Belgian domestic league and in Europe, and signing him - at the right price - would be a good move.

However, £12m looks rather steep for a young player who has no Premier League experience.

What Newcastle need this summer is a striker who has is a proven goalscorer in the English top flight.

The Magpies will be aiming for a top-10 finish in the Premier League next season, and perhaps they should target someone else.
