Italian giants rival Liverpool and Newcastle for super-sub attacker

AC Milan have reportedly stepped up their interest in French international Kevin Gameiro.

With the assistance of third-party investment group, Doyen Sports, a move for Sevilla striker Kevin Gameiro is being plotted by AC Milan, according to a report from Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo.

The French super-sub, who shares his playing time at the Europa League winners with Colombian star Carlos Bacca, has been frequently tipped as a transfer target of Liverpool and Newcastle United, by various British newspapers including The Sunday People.

Despite a wealth of speculation surrounding Bacca, who has also been linked with Liverpool, along with Arsenal and Tottenham of late, the 28-year-old has repeatedly expressed his wish is to stay put at Sevilla.

With that in mind, and given AC Milan have also previously expressed an interest in the Colombian, their attention is now firmly fixed on Gameiro instead, with the 28-year-old regarded as an ideal option to bolster the the Rossoneri attack.

Gameiro remained a potent scoring force for Sevilla, during the 2014-15 campaign. He made a total of 44 appearances in all competitions, although just 18 of those were in the starting eleven.

Utilised frequently as an impact player from the bench by Sevilla boss Unai Emery, Gameiro certainly didn't waste his opportunities to find the back of the net, registering 17 goals.

Given such numbers, plus the very high asking price of Bacca, it would surely make more sense for either Liverpool or Newcastle to step up their interest for Gameiro, rather than miss an opportunity and the player head to AC Milan instead.
