West Ham's new signing Pedro Obiang looking forward to facing Arsenal

The summer signing from Sampdoria cannot wait to take on The Gunners.

West Ham United have already been busy in the summer transfer market, with one arrival being that of midfield dynamo Pedro Obiang from Italian side Sampdoria.

The Spanish talent arrived for an undisclosed fee and West Ham fans are rightly excited about his talent. The player himself is just as excited.

He spoke to the Daily Mail this week, discussing his West Ham future. One thing he was clearly happy about was the opening day fixture, against Arsenal.

He stated:

"Seeing the fixtures the other day really brought it home to me.

"It was like a dream thinking about all the teams we’ll be up against. I’ve seen these teams on television and now I have the chance to play against them. It is very exciting for me.

"I think it’s great to start against a big club, it’s the perfect way to test the team early on in the season.

"But for now, I’m just thinking about trying to get ready and work my way into the first eleven for this game."

Obiang cost the club, according to the Daily Mail, around £4.5 million and represents a bargain buy for the club especially considering the list of clubs who were apparently keen on the player compared by some to Yaya Toure.

His excitement for the Arsenal game should be matched by West Ham's fans.

Why should Arsenal be wary?

Obiang is exactly the type of midfielder Arsenal tend to hate coming up against. A powerful runner with plenty of energy he has the ability to make the more work shy midfielders suffer.

This is a game in which Francis Coquelin will be key for Arsenal as Obiang will hope to dominate in his first ever Premier League fixture.
