Report: Watford agree deal for West Ham’s Argentine winger target Diego Perotti

Genoa’s Diego Perotti has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer.

According to fresh reports from Sky Sports Italia, Watford and Genoa have an agreement over the transfer of highly-rated Argentine winger Diego Perotti.

The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the club this summer, with intense interest coming from the Premier League.

As per a report in TMW during the week, West Ham United saw a £5.8 million bid rejected for Genoa’s star player, the Serie A club presumably holding out for more money.

The Hammers are keen on adding to the recent signing of Pedro Obiang but it appears they have been outbid by Premier League newcomers Watford.

“Genoa has accepted an offer from Watford for Perotti, the Pozzo club has proposed to double his salary as they want to give new manager Quique Sanchez Flores the first step to strengthen the squad after returning to the Premier League,” Sky Sports Italia report.

The influence of the Pozzos and Perotti’s talent:

Under the influence of the Pozzo owners, the Hornets have been building a strong team over the past 12 months and their connections with the foreign markets are being put to good use.

Perotti netted four times and added a further five assists in 27 Serie A starts last season, helping Genoa finish in a credible sixth position above both the Milan giants.

Interest elsewhere?

Aside from West Ham, the report goes on to say that Perotti had interest from La Liga side Valencia though the Spanish outfit’s offer didn’t quite match Watford’s.

It was mentioned the player was in fact keen on a move to the Spanish top-flight, but Genoa instead have been convincing him to head for England where an agreement has now been reached.
