Report: Norwich City preparing £8m bid for Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk

Premier League outfit Norwich City are reportedly interested in Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk.

Norwich City are preparing a bid of £8 million for Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk, according to The Scottish Sun.

It has been reported by the British newspaper that the newly-promoted Premier League outfit are planning to make an offer to Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.

According to The Scottish Sun, “Canaries boss Alex Neil has made the Dutch defender his No1 target this summer.”

Should Virgil van Dijk move to Norwich?

Van Dijk is one of the best players in the Scottish Premiership and a prized asset of Glasgow outfit Celtic.

The 23-year-old’s performances in the recently concluded 2014-15 season suggest that he has outgrown the Scottish league, but moving to Norwich would not necessarily be a great idea.

The Canaries got promoted to the Premier League via the Championship playoffs at the end of the 2014-15 campaign and are set to face a battle for survival next season.

True, Norwich can offer Van Dijk Premier League football and perhaps more money, but they cannot offer him the chance to win silverware or play in the Champions League that Celtic can.

The Premier League is a much better domestic league than the Scottish Premiership, and it would be seen a step-up if Van Dijk moves to the English top flight.

However, it has to be the right club. If the Dutchman wants to take a step up in his career, then he should leave Celtic only for a top-10 team in the Premier League.
