Newcastle are reportedly considering a move for Wolfsburg defender Robin Knoche.
The Magpies need to make a number of new signings this summer, as newly-appointed manager Steve McClaren looks to improve the squad on Tyneside.
One potential target could be Wolfsburg defender Robin Knoche, with The Chronicle believing that the Magpies are weighing up a move.
The 6ft 3in centre back has come up through the ranks at Wolfsburg, and now McClaren could swoop on his former club to land the defender.
However, The Chronicle believe that whilst Newcastle rate Knoche highly, they have concerns over the 23-year-old's poor season in the Bundesliga.
Knoche is currently away with the Germany Under-21's as they bid to win the European Championships, but could have a decision to make over his future soon.
Having seen experienced duo Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson struggle in the heart of the Newcastle defence last season, McClaren needs to bring in a new centre back - and preferably a young one.
Knoche has ability to play straight away, whilst he also has potential to grow into a star at Newcastle - even despite his disappointing campaign in Germany.
Whether it's Knoche or somebody else, Newcastle need to sign at least one central defender, possibly even more, with Knoche presenting a potentially attractive solution.
