Liverpool’s reported playmaker target Roberto Firmino betters Raheem Sterling in four key areas

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Hoffenheim’s Roberto Firmino.

As per a report in The Mirror, Liverpool are considering hijacking rivals Manchester United’s bid for Hoffenheim’s highly-rated playmaker Roberto Firmino.

The exciting Brazilian international has had a superb season in the Bundesliga, earning widespread praise and attracting the attentions of United boss Louis van Gaal.

As per a report in Italian publication TMW, the Red Devils were said to have already thrashed out a deal for Firmino with the completion of the transfer subject to agreeing personal terms.

Yet, The Mirror claims that the Reds are still in the hunt for his signature and a potential move to Merseyside could see him come in as a direct replacement for contract rebel Raheem Sterling.

As per the table above, should that be the case then the Reds could arguably be getting themselves an outstanding deal due to the Brazilian’s evident ability illustrated by his displays last season.

In the key attacking categories, Hoffenheim’s 23-year-old playmaker contributed more goals for his team than Sterling via goals and assists and averaged more shots on goal per encounter.

Moreover, Firmino is shown to be the better of the two on the ball in terms of successful dribbles and works harder off it, averaging an impressive 2.7 tackles per Bundesliga match.

Recent reports confirmed by the BBC state that Brendan Rodgers’ side turned down a whopping £40 million Manchester City bid for Sterling, an astonishing amount considering.

It’s unknown how much the Reds are willing to sell at, but they must take into consideration his contract situation and also realise there are potentially better replacements out there for much cheaper.
