Liverpool are not keen on selling their star man, but may have his replacement already.
Sterling looks destined to leave Anfield at some point in the future having failed to agree a new deal at the club despite months of talks.
And while it would be a blow for Liverpool to lose the player before the new season, Aldridge says they already have a replacement in their ranks.
“Liverpool have a ready-made replacement for Raheem Sterling in Jordon Ibe,” he said on TalkSPORT.
“He’s a terrific player and has got so much potential. He’s got as much, if not more potential, than Raheem had at that age. He’s a big strong lad, very direct and a better finisher than Raheem.”
Aldridge’s viewpoint is certainly one shared by many, with Ibe having garnered glittering reviews last season after an impressive loan spell with Derby.
He also impressed in his debut in the Merseyside derby against Everton, as well as several other appearances for the senior side so far.
In contrast, Sterling somewhat struggled last season, with his form taking a noticeable dip as the rumours over his future picked up pace.
Indeed Liverpool may be tempted to sell knowing that they have a ready-made replacement of the club already and could use the funds acquired from Sterling’s sale to improve the squad elsewhere.
