Chris Sutton wants Celtic to sign reported Aston Villa, West Ham United and Watford target Rudy Gestede from Blackburn Rovers.

Chris Sutton has written in The Daily Record that Celtic should sign Rudy Gestede from Blackburn Rovers this summer.

Benin international striker Gestede has been on the books of English Championship club Blackburn since 2014 and has a contract until June 2017, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

“Rudy Gestede at Blackburn is the best physical presence I’ve seen around just now,” former Celtic striker Sutton wrote in The Daily Record. “He’s a little rough around the edges but I said early last season Celtic should look at him.

“He bullied Liverpool in the FA Cup and it was the same against Stoke. He destroys central defenders and would offer something different but Blackburn are asking for silly money so would Celtic be able to get him?”

Should Celtic make a move for Rudy Gestede?

Gestede is one of the best strikers in the Championship and was in superb form for Blackburn in the recently concluded 2014-15 campaign.

The 26-year-old scored 19 goals and created 43 chances in 39 Championship appearances.

The former Cardiff City striker had a pass accuracy of 61% and a shot accuracy of 39%, and won 352 headers, nine dribbles and 13 tackles.

Celtic do have a couple of very good strikers in Leigh Griffiths and Stefan Scepovic, but the Bhoys need another top-quality player up front in order to compete in Europe.

Gestede would be a good signing, but the Scottish Premiership champions may have to face competition for his signature.

That’s because Premier League trio Aston Villa, West Ham United and Watford are all interested in the former Metz striker, according to The Daily Mail.
