Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren has told The Chronicle what his message to the staff and players is.
McClaren was appointed the new Newcastle boss earlier this month and is set to make a number of changes to the squad.
The Magpies narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League last season, with many of the players under-performing.
However, former Nottingham Forest and Derby County manager McClaren has suggested that he is willing to give a chance to all the players.
“I want to send a very clear message to the staff and players that this is a fresh start for everybody, and that we have to all pull together to have an exciting season,” the Englishman told The Chronicle.
“It’s a new beginning for Newcastle United and it’s a nice time to assess things before the players return for pre-season training and the hard work begins.”
Many of the Newcastle players should be encouraged by McClaren’s comments, as they suggest that he is willing to forget about last season and start things afresh.
The Magpies have been an also-ran in the Premier League for a number of years now, but this could be the start of a new era.
Newcastle are one of the biggest clubs in England and have a loyal following. It seems that under McClaren, they are now looking to return to their glory days.
