Report: Recently released West Ham star Guy Demel set for Montpellier

The Ligue 1 side are keen on the Ivorian free agent.

West Ham United's recently released defender Guy Demel is all set for a move to Montpellier, according to a report in France.

Foot Mercato are reporting that the former Arsenal youngster is being targeted as a free transfer for the French side, who won the Ligue 1 title in 2012.

Demel joined West Ham from Hamburg in 2011 and went on to be a vital squad member for the team. He played over 80 games for the club in his four years at the club, the majority of them at right-back.

However, after the arrival of Carl Jenkinson on loan from Arsenal, his playing time diminished and he will be released when his contract expires at the end of this month.

Demel recently made the news for suggesting to Le Phoceen in France that Marcelo Bielsa was the first-choice of the dressing room for the West Ham job, not recently appointed Slaven Bilic.

The Ivorian was also talking about a potential move to Marseille, but it looks like he is far more likely to be joining their rivals this summer.
