According to the latest reports from Sky Sports Italia, Inter Milan are closing in on a deal for Marseille’s Giannelli Imbula after their latest meeting in Monte Carlo.
The defensive midfielder is one of a few players to have dominated the transfer headlines in France as a number of top European clubs show interest in their services.
As per a previous report in The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur were credited with holding a strong interest and preparing a potential big-money bid which included Benjamin Stambouli heading the other way.
“Inter is looking to close the deal for Giannelli Imbula. The Nerazzurri are making progress with Marseille, yesterday they met with the player's intermediary in Monte Carlo, as well as the player's father and lawyer,” the report from Sky Sports Italia states.
What now for Tottenham Hotspur?
A number of names have cropped up as potential Spurs targets this summer, with the majority being defensive midfielders as boss Mauricio Pochettino eyes further improvement in that department.
Imbula, 22, is an excellent prospect - reliable on the ball, stamina in abundance and the sort of physicality needed to succeed at the top level in the Premier League.
However, the latest reports suggest that while Spurs are still in contention, he’s edging towards a move to Italy so it’s nearing the time of now or never in regards to the North Londoners pushing ahead in their pursuit.
