According to the latest reports from Sky Sports Italia, Bournemouth are set to sign Chievo’s Italian U20 international Filippo Costa following advanced talks.
The Italian youngster is predominantly a left-back and spent last season on loan at AC Pisa, featuring 26 times as the minnows finished fifth in Italy’s third division.
Following the Cherries' promotion to the Premier League, boss Eddie Howe has been scouring the market both domestically and throughout Europe in order to bring in top quality recruitments.
Although Costa, 20, doesn’t fall into that specific category, the newly-promoted outfit are looking at his potential and reports state a move to England’s south coast is all-but complete.
“The Cherries are having ongoing contacts with AC Chievo Verona for Filippo Costa. Negotiations are advanced, despite Atalanta’s interest in him in Italy. A new player for Eddie Howe, Filippo Costa is set to join Cherries,” Sky Sports Italia report.
If Costa joins the Cherries, he will become Howe’s fifth summer signing after Adam Federici, Joshua King, Artur Boric and Christian Atsu (on loan from Chelsea).
He will likely head into the team’s development squad as well as providing cover for 28-year-old left-back Charlie Daniels, a player who is himself largely inexperienced at top-flight level.
Bournemouth are among the favourites for a return to the Championship, but with Howe keen on getting his transfers done early they are looking to make the most of their momentum over the summer.
