Report: Aston Villa’s Matthew Lowton to join Burnley next week

Aston Villa

Matthew Lowton is reportedly set to leave Premier League club Aston Villa for Championship outfit Burnley.

Aston Villa defender Matthew Lowton is set to join Burnley next week, according to The Birmingham Mail.

It has been reported by the British newspaper that the Villans and the Clarets have agreed on a £1 million initial transfer fee which could rise to almost double that with add-ons.

Lowton has agreed a three-year contract with Championship outfit Burnley, according to the report.

Replacement for Kieran Trippier

Lowton will be a direct replacement for right-back Kieran Trippier, who has left Burnley for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.

Trippier was one of the best players for the Clarets for the past four years, and it will be a tough challenge for the Villa right-back to replace him.

Lowton joined Villa from Sheffield United in the summer of 2012 and has made over 70 league appearances for the Villans.

However, the 26-year-old struggled to hold onto the first-team spot under manager Tim Sherwood in the final months of the recently concluded 2014-15 season.
