The Argentine defender is content to let his agent deal with matters for now, as Manchester United intensify their efforts to sign him.
After discussing his work at the Copa America with Argentina, in an interview with the Latin American edition ESPN Sports Center, central defender Nicolas Otamendi was put on the spot with questions about his club future.
Clearly a little uncomfortable when asked to explain his situation at Valencia, the 27-year-old initially smiled and responded: "I don't understand you very well."
When asked directly if he's going to stay with Valencia, Otamendi began somewhat evasively, answering: "The truth is all I have to say right now is that I'm enjoying being with the national team, at the Copa America, where there's a lot of responsibility wearing this shirt."
However, opening up a little more, he explained: "Valencia know very well what I want. From there, every word my agent says is obviously with my authorisation."
Perhaps most importantly, regarding negotiations with other clubs, such as Manchester United and Real Madrid, Otamendi pointed out that his agent: "Fully has my authorisation to speak with whoever he needs to."
Eugenio Lopez, the agent of Otamendi has already made it clear that Otamendi wants to leave Valencia, with the Spanish club are aware of that, despite their president Amadeo Salvo denying such is the case, whilst insisting the player won't leave for anything less than his €50 million release clause.
Prompted to clarify if Valencia know he wants to leave, Otamendi replied: "I've had a talk with the president and my agent, and he knows very well what my wish is, but for now I've told my agent that my head is here and I'm leaving it in his hands, to do what he needs to do."
Sharing time in the Argentina squad with two Manchester United players, Angel Di Maria and Marcos Rojo, has clearly added to speculation that Otamendi may already be sounding out his future at Old Trafford.
Prompted to suggest whether they are offering any advice, Otamendi once more smiled and offered: "Well, yeah... at the moment I'm enjoying every day, enjoying Di Maria, Rojo, Tevez, Messi and lots of players who are references here."
The comments from Otamendi would appear to suggest that indeed, his wish is to leave Valencia this summer, which of course will be positive news to Manchester United especially.
Although given reports in Spain suggesting Real Madrid have also spoken with his agent, the Red Devils may potentially face a huge rival in their bid to land the Argentine star, if the interest from the Bernabeu is serious.
