The fixture lists are out and the Rams will face Bolton on the opening day as they look to get off to a great start in a season where the club will hopefully be promoted into the top flight of English football.
“Everyone’s excited for the new season to come around especially after the changes we have made in the off-season,” he said.
“The first game is always quite tough as well and it’s a fresh start for both teams.”
“It’s down to us to get into the right shape and right frame of mind for when the game comes around.”
Clement must adjust quickly
One of the big challenges for manager Paul Clement is going to be adjusting the scale and pressure of the club, as it’s his first job as a manager in complete control of a club.
He’s already shown that he’s got a good grasp of the transfer market with a deal for Darren Bent and it’s important that he quickly works out the best style for the side during pre-season.
He’s also going to face a challenge in terms of man management during pre-season and judging who’s up for the challenge of another long and hard season of Championship football.
Fixture list can’t be the focus
With the fixtures out, it’s understandable to see why Derby’s players could be focusing on key games next year; when are the club playing Forest? What’s the Christmas schedule like?
Clement should try and eradicate that thinking, urging his players to focus on pre-season and nothing else because it’s very important he keeps things simple for the players.
