Celtic, Preston and Charlton among those keeping a close eye on Villarreal's Fran Sol

Villarreal, El Madrigal

HITC Sport understands that Charlton Athletic and Brentford are also keen on the Real Madrid academy graduate.

Villarreal forward Fran Sol is being monitored by a number of British clubs, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the player.

The 23-year-old came through the youth ranks at Real Madrid before joining La Liga rivals Villarreal last summer, making his senior debut for the club earlier this year.

Now Sol – who has been told he will be in the Villarreal first-team squad next season – is looking for first-team football elsewhere and he is more than happy to move abroad in an effort to find the opportunities he craves.

A host of Championship clubs including newly-promoted Bristol City and Preston North End, Charlton Athletic and Brentford are all showing an interest in Sol, while Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are also keeping close tabs on his situation.

Sol has one-year left on his current contract at the Estadio Madrigal and it is expected that Villarreal would only demand a nominal fee for his services.
