Giaccherini is set to become a star for Sunderland, according to his agent.
Furio Valcareggi said: “Sunderland have kept Advocaat as manager, he’s a very good one, a holy man of football, and with him Giaccherini will be a genius. I’m sure Emanuele will do very well next season. His goal is the European Championships.
“He will remain 100 per cent at Sunderland.”
These are words that should delight Sunderland fans, with Giaccherini failing to live up to his reputation as talented playmaker since moving to the Stadium of Light.
He arrived at the club in the summer of 2013, but thanks to injury and a failure to adapt well to English football, the former Juventus player - and 21-capped Italian international - has managed just 43 appearances for the Black Cats.
He only took to the field 11 times during the 2014/15 season, registering only one assist and no goals, and never really impressed due to a serious long-term injury.
Only one of his appearances came following Dick Advocaat’s appointment as head coach, but the quotes from his agent makes it sound as if the Dutch boss has big plans for Giaccherini next season.
He is confirmed to be staying at the club ‘100%’, and his belief that Giaccherini will become a ‘genius’ is promising to hear.
With Advocaat now in permanent charge, and Giaccherini set to fulfil his potential as a key player, it looks as if Sunderland can now start looking for success in the near future.
