Delph is reportedly a target for Manuel Pellegrini, with the Chilean considering squad changes as he looks to chase down Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table next season.
However, there are plenty of reasons to suggest why Delph is better off where he is and why he should show a bit of loyalty towards his current club.
The most obvious reason he’s unlikely to be going anywhere is his new contract, which the Aston Villa website confirmed he’d signed last January.
Delph took the decision to tie himself down to Villa Park, which is where he sees his future rather than taking a move away from the club and pushing for a move to join one of the club’s in the Premier League’s top six.
It’s also significant that Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood took the gutsy decision to make the player his captain.
That’s a unique level of responsibility, which he’s unlikely to get close to in a Manchester City shirt.
He’s being given the opportunity to develop as a leader at Aston Villa, exposing him to a different level of pressure and expectation to what he’s already been used to.
Sherwood recently told Sky Sports that he feels Delph is the best midfielder in the country, which shows just how highly regarded he is by the Villa Park chief.
He’s also playing frequently at Aston Villa and there’s no guarantee that he’d be able to nail down a starting place in the Manchester City first team.
He’s won a place in Roy Hodgson’s England team because of his consistent performances for Villa and that would come under threat should he take a move where he’s arguably going to be playing less frequently.
