Report: Tottenham Hotspur make £20m bid for Arsenal target Geoffrey Kondogbia

Tottenham want to sign Geoffrey Kondogbia, also linked to Arsenal.

Tottenham Hotspur have made a move to sign Monaco midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, report Spanish newspaper Sport.

The paper claims Spanish side Barcelona are interested in the Frenchman, but are worried about Tottenham's offer of £20 million which has been submitted.

Kondogbia is considered an outstanding defensive midfield prospect, and is wanted by top teams across Europe.

Sport claims Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan and has personally sanctioned the transfer bid.

The 22-year-old has a contract with Monaco until 2018, and is the second player of the club Spurs have been linked with signing, with FranceFootball claiming they were close to signing Anthony Martial a fortnight ago.

The Express reported this week Arsenal are keen on Kondogbia, with Arsene Wenger speaking personally to the midfielder.

A tale of French midfielders

Kondogbia is not the only French defensive midfielder on Tottenham's radar; even with current players Etienne Capoue and Benjamin Stambouli facing uncertain futures, both linked by The Star with Watford.

Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin is a long standing target for Spurs, reported the Evening Standard, but is said to want Champions League football.

French website Footmercato linked Spurs with a move for Caen's N'golo Kante earlier this month, while The Mirror reported Tottenham are strongly interested in Marseille's Giannelli Imbula.

Former Sevilla star Kondogbia may just be the best of the lot, and after the key role he played in knocking Arsenal out of the Champions League last season, Spurs would surely love to have him.
