Southampton are reportedly keen on signing the Turkish international striker, although Stoke are interested.
The 28-year-old forward currently plays for Saint-Etienne in France, with whom he netted eight goals in 26 Ligue 1 fixtures last term. A Turkish international, he has eight goals in 33 caps for his nation, and a respectable, if average, career-wide goals to game ratio.
The report claims the forward has also been attracting interest from Premier League rivals Stoke City in recent weeks, although Southampton can offer him Europa League football as an incentive for the 2015/16 campaign.
Is a striker Southampton’s priority?
The report indicates that the Saints need to bring in a new forward this summer, and Erdnic looks to be that man. However, signing a striker does not look to be the main position that needs improving.
Graziano Pelle and Shane Long provide consistent goal threats, whilst Jay Rodriguez will be back playing next season after recovering from injury. The midfield also possess frequent goal-getters in Sadio Mane and Dusan Tadic.
It is the deeper midfield roles that look as if they need strengthening as a priority, with Morgan Schneiderlin expected to leave St Mary’s Stadium this summer.
