Liverpool are claimed to be interested in signing Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko, report Italian website Tuttomercatoweb.
Not normally associated with blistering speed, data collected by EA Sports Performance Index and published by The Telegraph this year described Sissoko as the fastest player in the Premier League, registering a top in-game sprint speed of 22.0mph.
The price quoted is a high one for the Frenchman, and a figure Newcastle could surely put to good use. The question for Liverpool is whether he is worth the money, stacked up against their current midfield star, Jordan Henderson.
|Team||Passing Accuracy||Dribbles per game||Key Passes per game||Interceptions per game||Final third passes per game||Tackles per game||Goals||Assists||Appearances|
Henderson was more productive in front of goal last season, contributing a combined 15 goals through goals and assists in the Premier League alone, with Sissoko just six.
The pair record very similar statistics in terms of pass completion percentages, final third passes per game, and interceptions, although it should be noted again Henderson edges all three.
The Liverpool midfielder is also more creative, averaging 1.81 chances provided per game to Sissoko's 1.29, and also averages 0.65 more tackles per game than Sissoko.
The area the Newcastle man comes out on top in is dribbling, substantially more confident to run with the ball, perhaps aided by an extra burst of pace.
Sissoko is close to Henderson in key areas and would not be a bad signing, but for the high price Liverpool have to ask whether he is an upgrade, considering James Milner has already been brought in, and Emre Can deserves a shot in midfield.
