Former Spurs midfielder Hoddle said: “Tottenham must remember United didn’t start well last season so it’s not a bad time to go and play them. I remember Swansea went there for the first game of last season and came away with a 2-1 win.
“So the Tottenham team must go there and play with plenty of confidence.”
United have suffered slow starts for the past few campaigns, and it is likely that the same will happen at the beginning of the 2015/16 season.
Last term, Swansea defeated United at Old Trafford on the opening day, with Louis van Gaal’s men looking far off the pace, and not really like a team. That was following the completion of a wealth of transfer business, and the side looked like a collection of players who had not played together before.
It is expected that this summer will see United complete more transfer business, with wholesale changes to a poor playing squad planned, and that means they will again enter the opening day needing to build that chemistry between players.
Spurs will start the season by heading to Old Trafford, and if they can play with confidence and the flair that is known of them, they may just be set to secure a great result.
