Chelsea 'keeper Petr Cech would help turn Arsenal into title contenders, says Harry Redknapp

The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Chelsea goalkeeper, and Redknapp is keen to see it happen.

Harry Redknapp believes Petr Cech could be a great signing for Arsenal, according to his comments on Kicca.

It is believed the Blues’ long serving 'keeper is keen to leave Stamford Bridge this summer having been replaced by Belgian youngster Thibaut Courtois in Jose Mourinho’s side last season.

The Czech had been an ever-present for over a decade before last year though, and clearly still has several years left at the highest level. Arsenal are desperate for a reliable number one, with David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny failing to impress thus far.

And Redknapp believes Cech could be one of the two or three good buys they need ahead of next season.

“Petr Cech could be a great move for Arsenal if they can get him,” he said on Kicca.

“He wants to stay in London and the Gunners need a top keeper. I’ve said they need 2-3 good buys and he’s one of them.”

The Gunners are expected to strengthen an already strong squad this summer, with fans now anticipating at least one big money purchase following similar deals for Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in the last two summer transfer windows.

Should they add to their squad well, many are anticipating a potential title challenge from Arsene Wenger’s side after their fine run of form at the end of the last campaign.

Redknapp is one of those, believing the addition of Cech plus others, and the return of duo Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott, could see them challenging Chelsea for the Premier League crown.

“Added to him [Cech] they need a striker and another central defender or top holding midfielder,” he added.

“Jack Wilshere will be fit at the start of the season, as will Theo Walcott and if they can get Cech and some other good buys then I can see Arsenal challenging for the title next season.”
