Derby County striker Darren Bent hasn't held back with his expectations for the coming season.

Derby County striker Darren Bent has told the club’s website where he and manager Paul Clement agree over next season.

Bent has explained that it’s his main aspiration to fight his way back into the Premier League as a Rams player, following his release from Aston Villa last season.

It won’t be easy but he’s suggested after talks with manager Clement, that’s the main goal of the club next season.

“I’ve spoken with Paul a few times and, like myself, his goal is to be in the Premier League,” he said.

“I am sure he will do the business; he is the right man for the job. He has his own philosophy and I am sure he will have a certain way he wants us to play.”

What’s important for the Rams is getting off to a good start when the Championship action returns in August.

Bolton, Middlesbrough and Leeds United are all sides that the club have to play within their first five games and it will be interesting to see how they approach those big matches with a different style and philosophy.

If the club can get some early wins under their belt and establish a position near the top of the table, which they will hopefully never give back, they can really send out a message to their rivals who may not enjoy similar good fortunes.

Derby have gone close to going up over the last two seasons and have been taught some harsh lessons, but they now have a clean slate and Clement’s main job over the summer will be to make sure that everyone goes into the new campaign with a fresh mentality.
