Tottenham reportedly join the race for Yohan Cabaye

Could Yohan Cabaye be the player to strengthen Tottenham Hotspur's midfield next season?

According to a report in the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Yohan Cabaye.

That news follows a claim from the same newspaper last week that Spurs had been offered the French international but that Mauricio Pochettino had other priorities.

Those ‘priorities’ may have been further strengthening his defence as much as anything else, but it is now being claimed that Tottenham are interested in the former Newcastle United star.

Cabaye left St James’ Park in January 2014 for a reported £20million, but 18 months later the player is being strongly linked with a return to England.

The 29-year-old has played 57 times for PSG so far, but he has only managed three goals and four assists and that dip in form could be a reason for a potential return.

Tottenham certainly need to strengthen their midfield, with Ryan Mason tiring as last season wore on and putting in some below-par performances in the final few months.

The report claims Cabaye has been told by his international manager Didier Deschamps that he must find a club where he can play regularly from the start if he wants to ensure a place in next summer’s European Championships, and his ability to both score and create could make him an enticing prospect for Tottenham.
