Report: Nottingham Forest considering move for Ali Al-Habsi

Nottingham Forest boss Dougie Freedman is reportedly keen on a move to sign some goalkeeping cover.

The Nottingham Post has reported that Nottingham Forest are keen on a deal to sign experienced goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi.

The 33-year-old is a free agent having been released by Wigan, who were relegated into League One last season.

Dougie Freedman’s reported interest in signing a goalkeeper is hardly surprising considering the loss of Karl Darlow for Forest.

Darlow played under Freedman on loan from Newcastle United last season, but with no guarantee for Forest in terms of getting him back, the Scot can’t be blamed at looking to draft in some extra cover between the posts.

In terms of potential obstacles to a deal for Forest, the paper mentions that his experience in terms of the Premier League, could be a reason that a side in the top flight looks to snap him up as squad cover.

However, Forest have a lot going for them despite the transfer embargo, which hangs over the head of the club.

Forest are a big Championship side, they are well supported at home and on the road, they have a good academy system and should be one of the sides in the fight for a place in the top six next year.
