Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move to sign an England under-21 midfielder.
The England under-21 star is reportedly a target for the Magpies, with manager Steve McClaren seemingly keen on a reunion with the midfielder in the top flight of English football.
The link can hardly be surprising considering McClaren’s recent past with the Rams, but the paper has suggested that any move will be difficult.
Derby are set to stick by their guns in terms of their asking price, with a £15 million fee mentioned in the paper’s report.
Whether Newcastle would be willing to cough up that fee for such a young player is doubtful.
Newcastle could also face competition in the form of other sides that may be interested, with the paper claiming that McClaren is keen to add two or three British faces to his squad over the course of the summer.
Hughes does have good experience at Championship level for someone who is still only 20-years-old and that’s something, which would help him if he pushed for a move that would allow him to progress to the Premier League as a player.
