According to the Daily Mirror, Aston Villa are interested in signing Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton this summer - but face competition for his signature.
Villa landed their first summer signing earlier today, snapping up Micah Richards on a free transfer from Manchester City as manager Tim Sherwood begins to mould his squad at Villa Park.
Sherwood is expected to improve his defensive options this summer following recent 6-1 and 4-0 defeats to Southampton and Arsenal respectively, and whilst Richards goes some way to helping that, Sherwood appears to have more targets in mind.
Goalkeeper Heaton, 29, started his professional career with Manchester United but has starred with Burnley since his move from Bristol City in 2013, even earning an England call up despite the Clarets' relegation to the Championship.
That relegation may mean that Heaton seeks an immediate return to the Premier League, and Villa are one suitor according to the Daily Mirror, though Southampton are also been credited with an interest, whilst The Sun suggested Everton and Newcastle also want Heaton just last month.
What does this mean for Brad Guzan?
Since Sherwood's arrival as Villa boss in February, American international Guzan has gone from clear first choice to being replaced by Shay Given between the sticks.
Now, the interest in Heaton could prove to the 30-year-old that he has little future under Sherwood at Villa, and should seek a summer transfer to make sure he plays on a regular basis.
It's a surprising fall from grace for Guzan, who had been a mainstay of the Villa side under Paul Lambert, and there could be plenty of suitors for his signature.
