Liverpool media round-up: Gomez negotiations at advanced stage, no Dzeko as part of Sterling deal

A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Liverpool Football Club this Wednesday morning.

Liverpool are closing in on their fourth signing of the summer according to the Liverpool Echo, as the Reds look to land young Charlton Athletic defender Joe Gomez for £3.5 million.

The 18-year-old, who can play both right-back and centre-back has attracted the interest of both Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund - while Manchester City and Aston Villa are also said to have made enquiries for him.

The deal is likely to be completed early next week, with the Echo reporting negotiations are at an 'advanced stage'.

The Reds continue to try and land a key defensive target in Southampton's Nathaniel Clyne - with the Daily Mirror reporting a £12 million bid for the right-back is in the pipeline after an initial £10 million offer was rejected.

However, the report suggests the Saints could want more - and may push for closer to their £15 million valuation.

The saga surrounding Raheem Sterling's future at the club continues with conflicting reports in the Daily Mail and Daily Mirror over the nature of the deal.

The Mirror has suggested that Liverpool have enquired whether they could take Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko as part of the deal that brings Sterling to the Etihad Stadium, while the Mail has suggested it will be a straight cash deal.

Another rumour from the Mirror is that Liverpool are showing strong interest in Hoffenheim midfielder Roberto Firmino - citing reports in Brazil.

Manchester City and Manchester United are both linked with the player, and his agent has been quoted saying that his client will be heading to the Premier League
