The England international wants out of Anfield this summer.
Sky Sports first reported the news and now the BBC is also claiming that Sterling has been the subject of a new bid. They claim City have bid £35.5 million for the player, rising to £40 million, who is seemingly desperate on a departure from Liverpool.
Sterling arrived at Liverpool as a teenager in 2010 after impressing in the youth system at Queens Park Rangers. He made his first-team breakthrough in 2012 and was an integral part of the team that almost won the Premier League title in 2013-14.
Last season was less than prolific for the talented 20-year-old. He has also seen the likes of Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard depart.
Liverpool fans are undoubtedly huge fans of Sterling's talents, but the way he and his agent have conducted themselves in recent times has left a sour taste in the mouth and right now most would happily see him leave the club for the right price.
Is £35.5 million enough?
Here is how some fans reacted on Twitter to the news...
How in Gods name can Liverpool reject a 35.4 million vid for Sterling. Unless City are deluded enough to pay 50 mill, we'll never sell him— .Jack. (@JackPreston95) June 17, 2015
We better reject that offer. I'd rather keep Sterling than sell him and to then waste all of the money on Benteke.— Entire Design (@EntireDesign_) June 17, 2015
35m + 5m add on for sterling? Sell him— Jay Gould (@Jay_lfc5) June 17, 2015
If I were Ian Ayre or Brendan Rodgers, I'd sell Sterling now and watch him rot on Man Citys bench. Nowhere near worth £40m!— Russell J. Adams (@BlackburnNoise) June 17, 2015
If City really did bid £40m for Sterling, take it, sell him, move on!!— Glenn Stephens (@glenn_stephens5) June 17, 2015
If they do not accept this offer, then they will not sell him this summer. I can't see anyone else offering £40 million for him. #Sterling— Aled Gardner (@A_Gard5) June 17, 2015
Man city stated final offer. Like we are really desperate to sell Sterling. If we do not sell him, the stick him in reserves. #Liverpool— Rohannony (@g7paul) June 17, 2015
