Everton's impending Deulofeu purchase makes Aaron Lennon's future even more uncertain

Tottenham's England winger may be moving to another club where he will struggle for game time if he signs for the Toffees.

News that Everton are on the cusp of re-signing Barcelona winger Gerard Deulofeu, according to the Liverpool Echo, has thrown further doubt on Tottenham wide man Aaron Lennon's future.

The England international was on loan at Goodison Park in the second half of last season, and the belief was that Roberto Martinez was interested in signing him permanently.

But now with Deulofeu likely to arrive, and considering the young Spaniard plays on the right wing, there is no telling how much the former Leeds player would get on the pitch if he were to move to the Toffees.

Deulofeu played 28 matches for Sevilla last season, and scored 3 goals and assisted 10 times. Lennon, by contrast, played more minutes than the Barcelona loanee, if you include his game time for Spurs and Everton last season, but scored 2 goals and assisted just 3 times.

In his season at Everton, Deulofeu scored 4 times and assisted for 5 goals, again illustrating his productivity compared to the Tottenham man.

There is also the hard evidence that, at 21-years-old, seven years younger than Lennon, the Spaniard is more better long term value for money.

The Express believe that Everton would like to sign both players, but if that is the case, then the two of them will be losing out when it comes to getting match minutes, quite aside by which of the club's existing wingers will still be at the club.

Another alternative for Lennon is of course doing his best to convince Mauricio Pochettino that he has a future in the Argentine's Tottenham side.

For that to happen Lennon has to be about to produce his best ever pre-season.
