According to a report from the French publication France Football, Stoke City star Steven N’Zonzi’s hesitance regarding a new deal has alerted a number of fellow Premier League clubs.
The former Blackburn Rovers midfielder experienced a wonderful campaign under Mark Hughes, helping the Potters achieve their highest Premier League points tally.
However, the failure to tie him down to a long-term deal has placed the Staffordshire outfit in a tricky spot as N’Zonzi enters the final 12 months of his contract with plenty of interest.
Premier League trio Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are labelled as ‘very interested’ in the report, with each club in need of bolstering their midfield ranks.
The former French U21 international is predominantly a defensive midfielder, though last season he acted more as a box-to-box man and weighed in with three goals and an assist over the campaign.
The Gunners in particular are in need of competition, and fellow linked players Morgan Schneiderlin and Monaco’s Geoffrey Kondogbia may come at a heavy price.
With just 12 months on his contract remaining, Stoke can’t afford to play hardball and risk losing him for free next summer therefore the potential is there for a bargain deal to be struck.
The report goes on to say the 26-year-old has suitors from the Bundesliga and La Liga also, but the financial benefits of staying in England suggests a move to closer to home could be imminent.
